I must admit, I was not prepared for this turn of events to happen, at least not this quickly. This quarantine is taking the notation “Working from home” and ‘online learning” to a whole different level.
Like, another planet type level.
Like, how many times have I opened the fridge in the last 60 minutes’ type level
Like, I didn’t realize how much I valued my space type level. “for the people who don’t live alone.”
We are barley, barley out of the 1st quarter of the year, and one big toe into spring, and we are being confined to our homes. Why, because of this global pandemic that we are facing called the “Coronavirus.”
What is Coronavirus? It is the “sand in my rice “that has put a big “mehgee” in my “2020 is gonna be my year mood.” #venting
But on a serious note, what is this Coronavirus? Well, according to the WHO “World Health Organization,” the Coronavirus disease, aka (COVID-19), is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus strain not previously seen. With similarities to the flu but differs by how quickly it seems to be spreading from human to human. Now, I am no scientist or doctor, but this to me screams a problem and adding insult to injury we ain’t got no vaccine. People are going crazy. My home country Trinidad and Tobago, unfortunately, has been added to the list of countries that are facing this crisis. As of today, a reported 40 cases have been identified; keep in mind T&T is a population of about 1. 4 million, and to put that into perspective, New York City has a population of about 14 million.
It’s interesting to see the human reactions people are displaying during this time, the thinking process of how people cope, and the opinions they voice. I took it upon myself to categories a few; Group A are the people saying that there ain’t no Virus. I’m guessing/ hoping this group off people may be changing their stand by now if it started back in January due to the current situation. Group B is piggybacking off Group A while adding that this is a training for Martial Law. If you don’t know what Martial Law is in 2020, SHAME ON YOU! Group C is the panic buyers. And I am still waiting for someone to please enlighten me about why people are panic buying toilet paper…I am at a total loss with this one. Group D is the people who just don’t want to follow the rules. If you don’t need to be out, then please stay indoors, aka stay in yuh house.
Listen, yes, it is a very depressing time. The loss of jobs for, whom some may live check to check, small businesses having to close their doors, school closures with schools turning to online learning. Side note; I think a lot of parents are going to be loving on their kid’s teachers after this is over….lol #paytheseteachers
But we must not lose faith!
Deuteronomy 31:8 says It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
I reside in Washington Dc, and this past week I have seen nothing short of “Community” amongst people. Yes, we are to stay indoors, but we must be our brothers and sisters and grandmas and grandpa’s keepers too. The outpour of help and assistance from every community has been nothing short of beautiful. And we sure did not lose our sense of fun either. We have taken our party and hangouts virtually. Virtual happy hours, brunches and concerts have become the new trend. When’s the last time you went to a party and did not have to wait in line to use the bathroom? Exactly…lol. I have personally been to about 4 concerts and ain’t left meh bed yet. DC GOGO was cranking this week with the likes of Backyardband and TCB, to name a few. John Legend gave us a free concert, and Debbie Allen, a free dance class, and sis still got the moves. DJ D Nice had a concert called “Homeschool at club Quarantine” on his IG live that hit 100k plus……the love Is real yall.
I know that we have all suffered some sought of tragedy in our lives to see that we must value every second we still have air in our lungs. But during this time, let us also give gratitude to the people who must be out there working during this pandemic; all the scientists working towards a vaccine. The doctors and nurses tending to patients. The restaurant personal who are still working the kitchens to fill the need of your online orders. Grocery store attendants, delivery food drivers, and taxi drivers, the community corner store, the liquor store, etc.
We appreciate you all.
Let’s remember to keep the sense and feeling of community going.
Oh, and 2020…… I need a raincheck!
Issa Vibe 🙂
Slang meaning:
